Diary Day One |
Day 1
Edale to Torside Reservoir
Date Friday 26th May 2006. Distance 16 Miles Ascent 4848 Feet Moving average 2.20 miles per hour
Weather
It was driving
rain nearly all day with visibility on the tops down to a few feet. It
was also very windy and difficult to stand up at times. Towards the
end of the day the sun poked its nose through the clouds for a few
brief moments.
We were up
at 5-30am hoping for an early start at Edale but unfortunately traffic
delayed us and we didn’t start walking until 10-30am. This was after
collecting our Pennine Way certificate from the Nags Head which will
be stamped and signed again when we reach Kirk Yetholm. We anticipated
that the first days would be difficult and this first one didn’t
disappoint us in this regard. Navigation would have been difficult
without the GPS especially through the peat goughs. We both slipped
over a few times on the way down from Bleaklow but nothing to dramatic
other than large peat stains down the nether regions. We completed the
days walk at 7pm at Torside Reservoir having earned all the
sponsorship raised so far in one day. Hoping for better weather
tomorrow.
Ta-ra for now
Mo & Dave.
